Sarah Barr’s most recent series of work is entitled Some Very Short Films. The figures in this series are photographed in carefully composed domestic scenes in their own homes.

Some of these individuals, while performing a solitary repetitive task are depicted in quiet contemplation while the rest of the world seems remote. Creating moments of rhythm in which, if we’re fortunate, realizations can be made, creative impulses can be heard and forgotten memories retrieved. The tasks may be frequent, repetitive, and sometimes outright boring, but they are the anchor of the choices we have made about how we care for our family, friends, home, and world. For the observer of these domestic tasks, the repetition of these activities over time accumulates into one lasting memory of a non-specific event.

Sarah Barr was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended Rosemont College on a Rollins Art Scholarship and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990. She has been exhibiting her work since 1988.
